Classes are separated into divisions and placement is based on skill, age, physical maturity, experience, motivation, natural ability and level of dedication.

Class divisions include:

Preschool (ages 3 & 4)
Children/Youth (ages 5 and up)
Teen and Adult dance
“All Stars” company classes (by audition)

Class levels include:
Recreational- beginner, intermediate, advanced
Pre-professional- competitive/performing team.

Auditions are required for placement in the “All Stars” Dance Company.

CLASSES WE OFFER

BALLET

Classical ballet technique is essential for the development of a strong and versatile dancer. Classes focus on proper placement, body alignment and technique.
Through ballet the student will learn grace, elegance, technique, discipline, flexibility, stamina, strength and endurance. We strongly feel that ballet is the most important dance form that a student can study.

POINTE

Those who develop the required technique, strength and control may advance to pointe shoes. For the safety of the dancer, a teacher recommendation is required for pointe shoes. Dancers must have strong core and ankle strength and be able to hold their ballet placement at barre and center.

TAP

This genre of dance focuses on co-ordination, timing and syncopated rhythm. Tap dance uses the sound of the tap shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument and is an expression of movement through sound. Dancers will learn intricate rhythms and combinations and choreography by performing rhythm based steps. Tap dancing is a great way to develop musicality, timing and balance. It also sharpens reflexes and improves memory skills and coordination.

JAZZ

Jazz is a rhythmic and upbeat style of dance that focuses on isolations of the body, proper alignment, leaps, turns, and the rhythmic aspects of dancing. Style can include classical jazz, contemporary-jazz, commercial jazz, Broadway/musical theater and jazz funk.

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance borrows movement from ballet, jazz, and modern dance technique. It encourages dancers to be versatile in their expressions, movement and emotion. It focuses on spacial and body awareness, use of body weight, floor work, leaps, turns, efficiency of muscle usage, and safe body alignment.

LYRICAL

Lyrical is often described as a hybrid of classical ballet, jazz, and modern dance. It is less constrained than ballet, more emotive than jazz and incorporates free movement from modern. It is a highly interpretive, expressive, and free-flowing form of dance, wherein the dancer expresses the theme or lyrics of a piece of music through his/her movements. Ballet is recommended to be taken alongside lyrical but is not required.

CLOGGING

Clogging is a traditional type of percussive folk dance and the official state dance of North Carolina. Movements range from the traditional Appalachian style of clogging to the contemporary style. Clogging is high-energy, upbeat and precise.

HIP HOP

This high-energy dance form uses the latest music mixed with movements that are influenced by some of today’s top video choreographers. Hip Hop is a broad collection of urban street dance styles and often incorporates elements of freestyling. Classes will provide a structured method of learning various styles of movement in a fun and vibrant environment. Each class will incorporate dance combinations and will encourage individual expression and personal style.

MUSICAL THEATRE

Incorporates the style of dance typically seen on a Broadway stage, is jazz dance based and incorporates music from Broadway musicals.

CONTEMPORARY IMPROV

Allows dancers to spontaneously create movement and explore the process of creating contemporary dance movements and choreography.

ACRO

Acrobatics is centered on fundamental acrobatic technique to increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, timing, body awareness, self-discipline, and confidence. Classes focus on proper placement and body alignment with emphasis on the strength and flexibility required to perform proper technique. Class levels are based on a students skills to ensure their safety.

BATON

Students will learn the fundamentals of baton twirling. Hand/eye coordination and rhythm are developed while combining twirling with basic dance steps. Partner and group formations are utilized. Students will need to purchase a Star Brand baton for this class.

PRESCHOOL DANCE

Our youngest students will learn dance fundamentals in a structured, yet fun environment. We offer ballet/tap and ballet/tumbling combination classes for our preschool students.

PRESCHOOL TUMBLING

Our youngest students will learn acrobatics fundamentals in a structured and safe environment. We offer ballet/tumbling and ballet/tap combination classes for our preschool students.
